Microblading vs Nano Hairstrokes
Everything you need to know to make the right choice for your skin and your brows.
Not all brow tattooing is created equal. If you’ve heard of microblading, you might think it’s the go-to option for natural hair-stroke brows...but there’s a newer, more advanced technique that offers gentle, long-lasting, and refined results.
Nano hairstrokes.
Let’s break down the difference so you can feel confident in your choice.

Microblading
What is microblading?
Microblading is a manual technique that uses a hand-held tool (a row of tiny needles shaped into a blade) to create fine cuts in the skin and implant pigment in a way that mimics brow hairs.

It can create a very natural look initially, and when it’s performed by someone with strong technical skill and a deep understanding of skin behaviour, it can heal beautifully and last well. It’s just a technique that requires a lot of skill and precision and unfortunately, not every artist has the training or experience needed to deliver consistent long-term results.

That’s where the limitations tend to show up:

-
Because the blade creates small incisions, some degree of trauma to the skin and scarring is inevitable.
-
Hair strokes can blur or merge over time, especially after multiple touch-ups.
-
There’s only so many refreshes you can safely do before the strokes lose definition.
-
Strokes need space between them to prevent merging, which can make blending tricky and prevent softness and flow.
-
The result can look more structured or uniform than natural brows, especially as it ages.
-
It isn’t ideal for every skin type. Sensitive, oily, or mature skin often heals less predictably.
Microblading isn’t “bad” when done well and for the right person, it can look gorgeous, but the industry is gradually moving toward techniques that are gentler on the skin, more versatile and adaptable, and that tend to age more gracefully over time.

Nano Hairstrokes
What are nano hairstrokes/nano brows?
Nano hairstrokes, also called nano brows or machine hairstrokes, use a tattoo machine fitted with an ultra-fine single needle to gently implant pigment and delicately create hairstrokes that mimic the look of soft, natural brow hairs.

Think of it as microblading’s softer, more refined, and far more skin-friendly cousin.
The benefits of nano hairstrokes:
-
Much gentler on the skin. No slicing, no tearing, and far less long-term trauma.
-
No scarring, even with repeated sessions over the years.
-
Hair strokes stay clean and defined, without merging or blurring as they age.
-
Beautiful flexibility. Strokes can be curved, tapered, layered, and blended to mimic real hair flow.
-
Suitable for all skin types, including oily, sensitive, or mature skin.
-
Easy to refresh, adjust, or evolve as your features and preferences change.
